DLFC is open to all boys and girls aged between 4-9 living in Shiilington, Henlow, Lower Stondon, Campton, Meppershall and surrounding areas.
The Club has been formed with the support of Bedfordshire FA.
In March 2013, the club was awarded the prestigious F.A. Charter Standard in recognition of it’s professional approach towards training, development and child protection issues.
The football club focuses on the fun aspects of football, encouraging the children to enjoy participating and not concentrating on playing competitive games.
The football club meets each Saturday morning from September through to July at Shillington playing field – each session lasts around an hour and starts at 9.00 am.
During the winter months, the Reception and Year 1 squads train in RAF Henlow’s sports centre; again from 9am till 10am. winter, the Y2, Y3 & Y4 squads will generally train outside unless the pitch is frozen/unplayable in which case they will also train indoors at RAF Henlow. During the winter, parents/coaches should look out for an email form the relevant team coaches for details on winter training arrangements.
Children are asked to attend training, with a bottle of squash/water, in their football kit, including shin pads. They should bring clean indoor trainers/plimsolls if the weather is “bad”.
Parents will also be pleased to note, refreshments for their children should be available at each session, as well as teas/coffees at very reasonable cost for the spectating parents!
The Saturday morning sessions are supplemented with friendly matches against other schools.
The club currently has 2 teams in each of Years 2-4 which are entered into the Mid Beds Mini League. The Year 4 teams play competitive league matches. Year 2 & 3 matches are non-competitive. Each team usually plays about 10 games through the season. Additionally teams usually play in up to four fun day tournaments during summer term.
Please note there is no requirement or commitment to play any of these friendly matches.
We also have Year 1 & Reception Teams- under FA rules (Rule 4 (a) (i), these teams are not permitted to play in competitive matches – A child who has not attained nor will have attained the age of six as at midnight on 31st August in a playing season shall not play, and shall not be permitted or encouraged to play, in a match of any kind in that playing season.
The Club will be arranging fun training sessions with other Clubs for our Year 1 ane Reception Teams to aid player development in these age groups. Parents of our Y1 & Reception teams will be asked to complete a registration/consent form which will be available at each session.
