Downpatrick Bowling Club was founded in 1949

The club started out with around 20 members most of which were associated to the nearby Cricket Club.

The members of the Cricket Club would pass their time between innings by playing bowls in "the meadow" at the corner of the cricket ground.

The club joined the Northern Ireland Private Greens League in the 1960s and have competed in this league ever since.

A club house was erected in the 1970s which allowed catering when other clubs visited.

The club has currently around 40 members who play for a number of different teams within the club.
