Millennium Hall History
Potted History Dunham Village Hall
The building as it stands today is on the site of the WI Hall which was built in 1934. The WI Hall was later found to have been erected from asbestos and was therefore condemned as unfit for purpose and it was at this time in the late 90’s realised we needed a new Village Hall. Funding was obtained from the local area in small amounts and latterly further funding was obtained from Notts County Council, Bassestlaw District Council, the Lottery Funding and the Parish Council to name but a few. This evidence is now displayed in the entrance of the Hall.
It is interesting to note that on the field at the rear of the Hall, which was donated by the Spinks family, that there originally an old Manor House, but unfortunately there are no remains that can be seen. The field is now used to hold outside events.
We must remember that Villagers such as Moss Whate and Geoff Ashton were part of the original team who turned the first sods to make way for the WI Hall in 1934 and later the start of the new Village Hall. Unfortunately these people are no long with us but we can still look on the Hall and think of them with pride. We must also offer out great thanks to Councillor Ian Atkinson who obtained a large number of grants for which we are grateful.
It is now hoped that we can continue to take pride in our lovely Village Hall which we have and are
still making sure we keep up to date in very way.
Enjoy using our Village Hall and make us proud. Ensuring that we see it grow for all.
