NVCO - Coronavirus: tell us how it's affecting your organisation

Kent Community Foundation: Funding for individuals - Emergency Hardship Fund

Wards Charitable Trust are offering grants to families with children who have complex needs. This Fund has been opened specifically to help these individuals who are facing increased challenges during the Coronavirus pandemic.  Recipients of funding must be referred to Kent Community Foundation through a professional third party.  Examples of people that could nominate on another’s behalf include (but are not limited to): charity employees, social workers, GPs and specialist doctors, occupational therapists or teachers.

Government financial support for charities during coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Government will provide £750 million to frontline charities across the UK so that they can continue their services to those in need during the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis.  £370 million will be directed to small and medium-sized charities, including through a grant to the National Lottery Community Fund for those in England, to support those organisations at the heart of local communities which are making a big difference during the outbreak.

The government has also said that charities (which includes village and community halls) can access many of the measures the Chancellor previously announced for businesses (see below).

Government financial support for businesses during coronavirus (COVID-19)

Grants of £10,000 or £25,000 are available to support small businesses, and those in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in England to help with the financial constraints caused by coronavirus. Government will provide funding to local authorities that are responsible for business rate billing.

National Lottery Community Fund: COVID-19

All funding decisions for the next six months will prioritise getting funding to groups best placed to support their communities at this vital time focusing initially on existing grant-holders and applicants.  Funding will be prioritised for:

  • Organisations supporting people who are at high risk from COVID-19
  • Organisations supporting communities most likely to face increased demand and challenges as a direct result of COVID-19
  • Organisations with high potential to support communities with the direct and indirect impact of COVID-19

This is in addition to the recent government funding announced - no details available as yet. The National Lottery will also continue to honour current commitments and will continue to be flexible with existing grants.

NSUN: Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund

Grants of up to £100,000 (small grants up to £2,000) are available for mental health voluntary and community sector organisations in England to respond to an anticipated increase in need as a direct result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust – Hospice Fund 2020

Grants of up to £5,000 to support the core costs of hospices in the UK that are members either of Hospice UK or Together for Short Lives.  The Trust is accelerating its annual Hospice Fund programme, in recognition of the additional pressures many hospices are experiencing due to COVID-19 and the associated restrictions on normal activities.

Sport England Community Emergency Fund

Grants to help community sport and physical activity organisations who are experiencing short term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Tampon Tax Fund 2020-21 – Grants to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged women and girls

Large grants are available for charitable organisations from across the UK for projects that improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged women and girls across the UK.  The funding is for projects which address one of the following categories:

  • Violence against women and girls
  • Young women's mental health and well being
  • General programme - to improve the lives of disadvantaged or under-represented women and girls

The fund welcomes applications that include activities that seek to address the consequences of coronavirus/COVID-19 for disadvantaged women and girls.

Colyer Fergusson Charitable Trust – Investing in Communities

Charities facing a funding crisis due to coronavirus are encouraged to through this programme under the ‘stabilising’ theme.  Priority will be given to applications requesting grants to help charities remain sustainable in the face of the coronavirus [Covid-19] pandemic.  The scheme will be providing grants for basic running/core costs or any costs associated with meeting the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.  Organisations can apply for a grant of between £500 and £5,000 per annum, for a maximum of three years or a one-off grant of up to £25,000.

PRS Sustaining Creativity Fund

Grants of up to £750 is being offered to help the UK’s emerging music makers adapt and sustain their creative work during the disruptive and evolving conditions brought about by the coronavirus outbreak.
