Advanced notification of essential maintenance work - A1 northbound and southbound between Foston and Little Ponton

I’m writing to inform you of some upcoming maintenance work on the A1 between Foston and Little Ponton. Our work will include:

• resurfacing sections of the carriageway, slip roads and laybys
• refreshing road markings, studs and installing high friction surfacing
• resurfacing sections of footways
• replacing damaged kerbs within laybys
• renewing missing and damaged marker posts
• vegetation clearance where required, including removing self-seeded trees from centre reservations.

Once complete, road users will benefit from a safer road whilst reducing the need for future maintenance.

When will this work take place?

Work is due to start on 11 June 2026, and we expect to complete by the end of October 2026.

To keep our programme for these works as short as possible, and to minimise disruption to the local community, we’ll work between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

What does this mean for you?

To carry out this work safely, we’ll work under full carriageway and slip roads closures. Laybys will be closed throughout the works.

During closures, fully signed diversions will be in place.

Where it is safe to do so, access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained in emergency situations.

We’ll write to you again at the earliest opportunity once our planned programme of work has been confirmed.
