Ellesmere Society

About Us

Where is Ellesmere?

Ellesmere is in Shropshire, it is a small market town located by the side of 'The Mere', which one of the largest natural Meres in England outside the Lake District, and one of nine glacial meres in the area.

The other asset for Ellesmere is the Ellesmere Canal, which goes on to Llangollen via the Pontcysyllte aqueduct, which is now a 'World Heritage Site'.

   Aims of the Society

1.  To stimulate public interest in the area.

2.  To encourage high standards of planning, and architecture in, or affecting the area.

3.  To protect, develop and improve features of historic or public interest in the area.


The society holds its monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month, at 7:30 pm in the Ellesmere Comrades Club.

Most months we have a guest speaker to talk on subjects of interest to the membership.

 Visitors and new members are welcome.  

 Membership fees - This year the membership fees have been reduced to from £12 to £10 per person.

Charges for Visitors are £2 per visit.
