PARISH COUNCIL NEWS AND VIEWS

Parish Council Meeting.

The next Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday 9th April 2018 at the Village Hall starting at 7.30pm or at the conclusion of the Annual Parish Meeting which ever is the later. All parish council meetings are open to members of the public and there is an opportunity during Public Participation to make representations, ask questions or give evidence about any item of business on the agenda of the Meeting.

Parish Councillor Vacancy.

Due to work commitments Andrew Hind has resigned from his position as a Parish Councillor which means there are now two vacancies. To work effectively and efficiently the Parish Council does need to have a full complement of members. If you have an interest in local matters, are able to spare a few hours a month to attend Council and committee meetings and would like to be involved in shaping the future of the Village please get in touch with the Clerk to the Council who will be able to provide further information on what is involved. No election will be necessary as the Parish Council has the power to fill casual vacancies by co-option.

Persimmon Homes Appeal Upheld.

The Planning Inspector, following the Appeal Hearing which took place in January, has now issued his decision on the Persimmon Homes appeal against the decision by Harborough District Council to refuse the planning application for the proposed erection of 290 dwellings, including affordable housing, landscaping and associated access on land at Fleckney Road, Saddington.

The Inspector’s decision is to allow the appeal and grant planning permission subject to certain planning conditions.

Many of the auguments put forward by the residents of both Fleckney and Saddington, the County Council and the Parish Council were accepted by the Inspector as being valid but unfortunately in his view did not carry sufficient weight to sway his decision sufficiently to dismiss the appeal.

A copy of the Inspector’s decision can be viewed/downloaded from the Parish Council’s website.

Land off Arnesby Road, Fleckney.

Gladman Developments is proposing a residential development of approximately 160 new homes plus public open space with recreational facilities on land off Arnesby Road. If you missed the opportunity of attending the public exhibition held at the Sports Centre there is still an opportunity to have your say before a planning application is submitted. Your views are important to Gladman and will be considered as they progress their plans for the site.

Further details and the proposals are on the Gladman website: www.your-views.co.uk/arnesbyroadfleckney or you can write to: Your Views, Arnesby Road Fleckney, Gladman House, Alexandria Way, Congleton, Cheshire, CW12 1LB.

Silent Soldier.

The Royal British Legion is rolling out the “Silent Soldier” concept which marks the sacrifice of those who fell in the four war years leading up to the Armistice in November 1918. Commemorative events will be held across the United Kingdom during 2018, 100 years after the end of the First World War.

Silent Soldiers will appear across Leicestershire as we commemorate the end of WW1. They will appear on buildings, and in gardens, fields, on roundabouts and many other places. The Parish Council has agreed to make a donation to the Royal British Legion and will be displaying a Silent Soldier in a prominent position in the Village centre. Companies, voluntary organisations and individuals can join the Nation in remembrance by displaying a Silent Soldier. Anyone wanting more information should contact Sophie Dinnie, Leicestershire & Rutland Community Fundraiser, sdinnie@britishlegion.org.uk.
