Competition Rules
Club Competition Rules - Men and Ladies
- 1.1 Club Competitions take precedence over roll-ups.
- 1.2 When not played on fixed dates, early booking is essential for the competition to run smoothly. See Bye Laws and Rules of the Green 3 & 4.
2. Challenger and Opponent Eligibility
All Competitors must be Playing Members of the Club when they enter the competitions.
3. Booking of Rinks
- 3.1 Where the Competition Secretary has not fixed the dates of games, the challenger (first named in a tie) must offer two dates to the opponent (second named in a tie) not less than seven days before the closing date of the round. The rink for play shall be drawn from those available in accordance with Rules 17 and 18.
- 3.2 Should no dates be offered by that time, the opponent must offer one bookable date and time to the challenger. Should the challenger fail to accept that date, he or she will concede that game to the opponent.
- 3.3 It is expected that when offering the dates and times for these games, due consideration shall be given to the conditions of employment and any other constraints placed on the times available to the opponent.
- 3.4 In singles play the challenger shall be responsible for arranging a marker.
4. Competition Dates
- 4.1 The dates and rinks for all or some of the rounds of a competition may be fixed by the Competition Secretary, but in any event will be fixed for the Semi-Finals and Finals.
- 4.2 Competitors are expected to play on the dates set by the Competition Secretary and may only play on another date, prior to the date of the next round, with the agreement of their opponents and the Competition Secretary.
- 4.3 Dates for the Semi-Finals and Finals will be set and advertised prior to the beginning of the season and may not be re-arranged, except for illness and/or participation in National Competition Finals.
5. Games not Played
- 5.1 In the event of the game not being played by the set date or in the case of a fixed date, prior to the date of the next round, whichever is appropriate, both players/teams will be eliminated.
- 5.2 A player/team wishing to claim a game by default must do so by notifying the Competition Secretary in writing by the date set for that round or on the day after the fixed date, if not re-arranged, whichever is appropriate.
- 5.3 If a player, having played a round, then gives a walk-over in a subsequent round for a reason other than illness or family bereavement, that person shall not be allowed to enter the Club Singles competition for the following season.
6. Laws
All competitions will be played under the World Bowls and World Indoor Bowls Council Laws of the Sport of Bowls and the Foxhill IBC Bye Laws29.
7. Start of an End
The commencement of an end will be when the jack is delivered.
8 The Game (Men and Ladies)
- 8.1 Dress - Greys, except for the finals, which will be played in Whites. Official Club Shirts and Cardigans may be worn in all rounds32.
- 8.2 Duration - subject to 8.3 below:
- a. Singles-21 shots.
- b. Ladies Two Woods-21 ends.
- c. Men's Two Woods - Two sets of 11 ends. If sets are tied, a shoot out over the best of 3 ends, with one point scored for each end won.
- d. Pairs-18 ends.
- e. Triples 18 ends.
- f. Fours 18 ends.
- 8.3 Time Limit - All competitions will be subject to a time limit of 4 hours including trial ends.
- 8.4 Scores Tied - Where the scores are tied at the end of the time allotted for play, the teams will toss for choice of mat and a further end will be played until a result is obtained.
- 8.5 Final No-End - Should a no-end be made on the final end to be played in a four-hour period after the five-minute warning sound, the end must be replayed until completed normally.
- 8.6 Clubman competitions - Entry to this competition is not allowed to any player whose name appears on the Club Competition Honours Boards in the last 5 years.
9. Constitution of Teams
- 9.1 The team playing in the first round of a competition shall be the constituted team.
- 9.2 Each team must field the correct number of players on the day of the game.
- 9.3 The Mixed Fours team shall consist of two men and two ladies45.
- 9.4 For the Over 55 Pairs and Clubman Pairs any combination of sexes is allowed.
10. Substitutes
- 10.1 The Pairs, Triples and Fours will be allowed to use one and the same substitute only and he/she shall not have already played in the competition for another team.
- 10.2 The Mixed Pairs and Mixed Fours will be allowed one male and one female substitute who have not already played in the competition for another Pair/Four.
- 10.3 The substitute must be an eligible player as set out in Rule 1.
- 10.4 Substitutes in Club Semi-finals and Finals will only be allowed in cases of genuine illness and the involvement of a player in National Competition final stages.
11. Late Arrivals
In the event of a team or opponent arriving more than 15 minutes late, they shall forfeit the game.
12. Score Cards
All competition scorecards, with the event, date and names of the players clearly indicated must be signed by both skips and placed in the box provided.
13. No-ends
A 'no-end' shall be played again in the same direction unless both players in the singles, or both skips in other games agree otherwise.
14. Walk-overs and Disputes
- 14.1 Should a competitor wish to claim a walk-over, the Competition Secretary must be provided with the reasons, in writing, by the date for completion of the round or the day after a fixed date, if not re-arranged, whichever is appropriate.
- 14.2 Should the opposing player dispute the claim, the details of his/her objection must also be presented in writing3. Failure to do so may result in the disqualification of both teams.
- 14.3 The Competition Secretary will make any decisions, but either side may appeal in accordance with the Disputes Procedure Bye Laws.
- 14.4 Failure to adhere to the above rules may lead to disqualification from the Competition.
15. Committee Decisions
Any matter not covered in these rules shall be referred to the Executive Committee7.
16. Green Fees
The Green Fees for all competitions will be decided and published by the Committee and must be paid before play commences and shared between the participants.
17. Drawing for Rinks
- 17.1 Rinks for all competitions shall be drawn with both participants in the Singles and both skips in team competitions present at the draw.
- 17.2 All rinks shall be included in the draw, but the outside rinks may be excluded from the draw by agreement of both competitors/skips, provided that at least two rinks are still left in the draw.
18. Precedence
- 18.1 National Competitions, which shall have first choice of rink, and League games take precedence over Club Competitions and shall not be included in any draw for rinks.
- 18.2 Only those rinks left once rinks being used for National Competitions and League games have been excluded are entered into the draw for rinks.
