A packed audience welcomed 18 pupils from Bramdean School, Exeter on Sunday afternoon in the Sidholme Music Room to enjoy a varied and delightful hour of choral and instrumental music, led by their director Miss R Bennet, assisted by the Head of Music, Ms Lowles. The youngsters, ranging from age 6-16, were calm and professional in their behaviour and presentation, wearing long red cassocks and black stoles for the choristers, who sing regular services in their school chapel. The programme included choral works for these services including a Nunc Dimitis, and Magnificat sung in English, and an Ave Maria. They were ably accompanied for these pieces by Mr Phillips on the renovated organ. Interspersing the choral works were solos including piano, violin, a very accomplished cornet and even an exciting African Djembe drum. Several pupils sang solos, both individually and as a duet and quartet. The quality of the young voices was pure and accurate, with a well-blended sweet tone. The diction of the group was especially apparent in the last lively well-known ‘The Rhythm of Life’ by Colman. Everyone enjoyed themselves, the pupils and the audience too. It was lovely to see new young talent being encouraged in a local school.
