Whitehill/Bordon

twinned with

Condé-Sur-Vire, Manche, France

The twinning started in 1971. At first it was an informal exchange between the primary schools of Bordon and Condé-Sur - Vire.

The school exchanges were so successful that in 1979, the Town Councils decided that there should be a formal twinning. The Mayors of both towns signed the Twinning Charters in June 1980.

The school exchanges continued along with visits by families and sporting groups to enjoy football, petanque, judo, archery, canoeing, cycling and table tennis.

Many friendships have been formed and the exchanges between families continue to the present day.

We consider our twinning to be a very successful and valuable element of community life in Whitehill/Bordon.

We welcome all residents of Whitehill/Bordon area to join us for exchange visits and social events.

Aims

The Twinning Association aims to promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Whitehill/Bordon and those of Condé-Sur-Vire.

The Association encourages visits by individuals and groups to and from the linked towns, by doing so broadening their mutual understanding of cultural, educational and commercial activities.

The link also organises fundraising activities to foster the aims of the Association. During the course of the year, the Association is out and about in the community raising funds to enable those who become interested to take part in the twinning exchanges.

Where is Condé-Sur-Vire and what is it like?

Condé-Sur-Vire is a charming town just a few miles south of St Lo in Normandy. It is about one hour's drive from Cherbourg. There are many interesting places within easy reach of Condé.

Condé-Sur-Vire is a very rural community. The town has evolved around the Elle et Vire factory which produces a large percentage of the dairy products to be found in French supermarkets.

The hospitality of the town's folk is second to none. Once you stop in Condé-Sur-Vire and make friends they become friends for life which is evident in the fact that some families have been visiting each other for thirty years!
