Godshill Matters AGM, July 2025: Chair's report

It’s only been a year since we launched. The association was initiated by Leigh and some motivated individuals under the original name of Rethink Godshill.

We became fully constituted in July 2024 with a nominal committee. Since then, we have met monthly, and meetings are conducted in a friendly and inclusive way. Everyone is welcome.

We have offered an exciting events programme: -
Biosphere Festival 2024 – 2 walks and craft activity.
Godshill Christmas Cracker – lots of small events run by different organisations. Unfortunately, the weather took its toll on the outdoor ones!
The Easter Treasure Hunt – 79 families took part, and it was lot of fun.
The Garage Gallop – 13 driveway sales and 5 tabletops. A real social event as well as raising both individual and organisational funds.
Biosphere Festival 2025 – a led walk followed by an informative talk about Munsley Bog.
The Walking Group started in October and has continued monthly since on the third Friday of the month. Between 20 – 30 people (and a few dogs) take part in every walk.
We have supported local campaign – keep the Save our School, Greening Godshill, Loo Larder to name but a few.

Lots planned for the coming year, but that’s another story……

Particular thanks: -
o Colin for free use of the barn in the early days.
o Mary for free use of the scout hall for many things.
o The school for subsidised use of the hall for meetings.
o The many volunteers and supportive organisation like the Church, the Old Smithy, the Griffin, who offer time, space and effort to ensure Godshill Matters to us all.
