At the AGM held on Wed 12th April 2023 Gordano Probus was Wound Up, because of insufficient numbers of members.

Former Secretary for many years, John Hewett, has written a short account of our history.

Gordano Probus Club Portishead.
The club was formed in 2004 when two other Probus Clubs decided to amalgamate and chose the name “Gordano Probus Club”.

Ivan Button, John Wooster and Gordon Randall were 3 of the original members.
Probus Clubs provide a meeting place for retired men to socialise and have a good meal.

Single men and widowers particularly appreciate the friendship.
Ladies and partners are invited to join for Christmas and mid –Summer lunch.
Trips have been enjoyed to Concorde Museum, Postal Sorting Office, Avon and Somerset Police HQ and the catering department at Weston College.
When I joined in 2010 membership was about 40. During covid-19 some members kept in contact by ‘Zoom’ and phone calls
When meetings restarted in 2022 a significant number didn’t rejoin or were reluctant to meet in groups.

New members didn’t balance the loss by resignation and death.
Six members were over 90 years (Graham Biggs, Tony Everett, John Wooster, Gordon Randall, Arthur Keown, Arthur Oborne.) and most of the rest over 80 years.
Recent Members of note included.
Ted Talbot 1928-2022 Started at BAE age 25 and became Corcorde Chief Design Engineer.
Gordon Randall. Journalist, Editor of Points West and News Editor for Midlands at Pebble Mill.
John and Pat Wooster celebrated Platinum Wedding Anniversary September 2022.  John was club secretary for many years.
Arthur Oborne was 99 in January 2023. In 2022 he attended Annual Remembrance Parade in London
Chairmen since 2015 were Paul Williams (2) Gordon Randall. Jack Lewis,Chris Parsons (2) and Jeff Salter.
At AGM in April 2023 it was unanimously decided to close the club as we were unable to form a committee.

Balance of club funds will be shared between RNLI, Portishead Christmas Lights and Portishead in Bloom.                                                        May 8 th . 2023 John Hewett (Welfare Officer)
