Great Lumley Bowls Club
. . . I thought "Give that a go!"
After having spent over 20 enjoyable years at Chester le Street Golf Club I began to suffer with my back. Various visits to chiropractors and physiotherapists showed that there was no permanent cure. It was apparently due to many years playing competitive league tennis and it was simply wear and tear.
In June this year (2016) I gave up the golf as it was becoming a bit too much and I thought about an alternative pastime. Whilst reading my copy of Village Matters I saw the advert, publicising the Bowling Club and I thought "give that a go!".
I went down to the Club on a Tuesday afternoon where I met Arnie and Clem, who made me most welcome. I was introduced to Jim Nutter who gave me a "jumbles" and then I was away.
Whilst I'll never be a good bowler I find it most enjoyable and everyone is competitive but friendly.
I look forward to several enjoyable years at the Club. Clive Magee
