2019 has been a significant year so far for the "Shed" due to the fact from historically having the luxury of paying a peppercorn rent to use the facilities,We are now having to pay a "commercial" rent to stay at this location in the Ore area of Hastings. We would like to take this moment to THANK an organization called "The Big Local"for their generosity in funding our Charity in our hour of need to survive!.Whilst in the moment of giving our Heartfelt thanks,Mick James our outgoing Chairperson had done a great job towards the sucess of our organization and along with our loyal band of Members who keep us going now.The Shed has a symbiotic relationship with the local people who due to the fact that they provide us with donated Bric-a-Brac,old furniture etc.and recycled wood, our Members then make innovative goods to sell back at very reasonable prices which in turn goes towards paying our Utility bills....... "The Shed would like to report that at this moment of austerity and local goverment cutbacks we are having more and more people being referred to us from Social Services suffering from various problems to come and enjoy our workshops, the voluntary Trustees are not "Trained" to look after their personal needs so we have to insist they bring a carer along to monitor their actions as you can understand we operate some industrial tools on the premises and our Policy is to keep Safety a priority! ..... Up to date news in August,is that we are busy making new garden goods, Planters,Bird,Bat and Bug boxes,Obelisks and Trellis etc. so come along and see the range ....... In finishing this article it is well worth mentioning John a new Member and quite a "Billy Whiz" on a computer who is working on an exciting new project design to show new Funders a new concept in helping to keep the dream of Hastings'Men'Shed alive... Watch this space!!! ... Gerry Balcikonis .
