The Curtis Museum and Allen Gallery in Alton offer exciting opportunities to explore and learn about the history of Alton and its surrounds. The Curtis Museum holds one of the finest local history collections in Hampshire. One of the highlights of the collection is the famous Anglo-Saxon Alton Buckle. The Allen Gallery offers an intimate setting for one of the South's most outstanding collections of English, continental and oriental pottery, porcelain and tiles. We have a fantastic offer for schools and families, with something available for everyone. The Curtis Museum offers a range of hands-on, facilitated primary school sessions that support classroom learning, including 'Alton's Saxon Graves' (Key Stage 2) and 'Exploring Toys' (Key Stage 1). The Allen Gallery has free activity bags for the under 5's, which give our youngest visitors and their families the chance to explore our displays through play, books, games and puzzles. Both venues have family activity stations with a range of activities to enjoy during visits, and both host exciting families activities and events. The Allen Gallery also hosts evening talks and temporary exhibitions.
