King's Cup
Wednesday 28th May:
A much needed win was played out at Oakham BC. Of the 3 rinks HSBC won 2 and OBC 1, with a total shot score of HSBC 50 - OBC 41, and a match points score of HSBC 8 - OBC 2.
Rink scores: Bob Lemon, Mike Jones, Glen Roberton & Sue Lemon v R Gregory 20-11; James Cregan, Claire Cregan, Evelyn Underwood & Fred Thorpe v C Wagstaff 20-15; Mark Cregan, Byron James, Dennis Hopkinson & Eric Faulconbridge v P Murrant 10-15.
Wednesday 14th May:
The match away against Belvoir Vale BC resulted in a narrow 2 shots win for BVBC. Each club won one rink, both having rather lobsided scores, with the third one drawn. The total match shot score was HSBC 46 - BVBC 48, with a total match points score of HSBC 3 - BVBC 7.
Rink scores: Bob Lemon, George Butler, Glen Roberton & Sue Lemon v C McNab 26-10; Angelo Grillo, Mark Simmons, Mike Jones & Bob Penny v B Birch 12-12; Kyle Warrington, Claire Cregan, Evelyn Underwood & Fred Thorpe v S Gant 8-26.
Wednesday, 30th April:
A disappointing beginning to our defence of the King's Cup against Market Overton BC.
MOBC won on two rinks with one rink drawn; match points scored HSBC - 1, MOBC - 9.
Rink scores: Rink 4 - James Cregan, Claire Cregan, Peter Orridge and Bob Penny v J Abbott 14-14; Rink 3 - Eric Faulconbridge, Anne Spaulding, Glen Roberton and Fred Thorpe 13-18; Rink 2 - Mike Jones, Harold Cramp and Dennis Hopkinson 11-17. Unfortunately, on rink 2, HSBC only had 3 players due to a no show; this reduced their score by 25%, but this did not affect the overall match points scored.
The number 13 was definitely our unlucky number on two rinks. Rink 3's game was evenly poised up to the 14th end, but, on 13 shots, didn't pick up a shot on the last 4 ends. On rink 4, HSBC were 5 shots up after 12 ends, but, on 13 shots, picked up only 1 shot over the next 6 ends resulting in the draw.
