Welcome everyone to our 2024 season.
2024
We held our first friendly of 2024 as usual playing Hornsea Promenade at the Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday 11th February playing for a new trophy the Hornsea Indoor Challenge Shield. Hornsea won 4 of the 6 rinks and were overall winners by 76 - 42 meaning that Hornsea is the first name on the new trophy. The match was followed by a very fine buffet lunch donated by members and raffle which raised £56 for each club. Following the very sad news that our dear friend and bowling colleague Carl Blagg passed away it has been decided to rename this trophy the Carl Blagg Memorial Shield.

2023
We held an Open Day which included an opportunity for Members to sign on and select which teams they would like to play for this summer on Saturday 1st April from 10am to 12 noon. If you missed this and still want to join this season please contact the Treasurer or Secretary. New members very welcome either full or social, can’t bowl, we will show you, 4 free lessons, just come and try, you will be surprised how much fun it can be.
The green was officially opened on Sunday 16th April at 2pm for the 2023 summer season with Friday afternoon roll ups as well as league and friendly matches as detailed on the website and notice board in the clubhouse.
Thanks to everyone who turned up on 28th March to help get the clubhouse and green ready for the season. There are always jobs to be done so if anyone has any spare time it would be much appreciated.
SOCIAL EVENTS AND FRIENDLIES.
Our first friendly of 2023 was held on 19th February against Hornsea Promenade at the Indoor Bowls Club. What a great turn out with 6 rinks of triples. It was a fun, friendly event and a very close score line with Hornsea winning two rinks, Prom winning 3 rinks and one rink drawn. However it had been agreed before the match that the aggregate score would win so Hornsea won the overall match. The match was followed by a meal, drinks and a raffle.
WOW what a wonderful afternoon playing against the Thringstone Bowls Club on Sunday 21st May. We had a very friendly game and the sun shone - what more can you ask for. Followed by bacon and sausage butties, a spider competition and finally a presentation and a few bevies in the Hornsea And District Indoor Bowls Club. A really great day enjoyed by all. This year’s Centenary Cup match against the Hornsea Promenade Bowls Club was held on Sunday 9th July. It was a fantastic sunny afternoon with Hornsea winning once again. Both teams enjoyed sandwiches and cake after the match.
The 2023 Brignall Trophy match was a slightly different format this year as it was played indoors due to the wet weather. It was a challenge for some with many early woods going into the ditches. However once the players adjusted to the different conditions a very close and enjoyable match was enjoyed by all. Ken Sutton ended up the victor with John Middleton a close second. Everyone then adjourned to the outdoor clubhouse for the traditional Salmon and Strawberry tea.
