Personal Statement

I have lived in Ivinghoe with my husband David since 1991 and our two children were born and raised here. Although I was born and lived for the early part of my life in Essex I have been familiar with this area since childhood frequently coming to spend holidays with my aunt, uncle and cousins just outside Hemel Hempstead.

On completion of a degree in Biology I took what I thought would be short term job in the Post Office writing code for their newly acquired ICL main frame computers. The part of the Post Office I was in morphed into BT and I moved from coding to systems analysis to Project Management to Programme Management and eventually retirement. In the meantime I’d managed teams in America, India and all across the UK and my children had grown up and gone off to university themselves.

During my working life I had little time to spare for involvement with parish matters but I was aware of the work a previous parish councillor and neighbour of mine was doing to try to combat the dangerous speeding through the village. When he left the village he asked me if I would be interested in carrying on this work and volunteering to join the Parish Council. Seeing service on the Parish Council as practical way to help preserve and hopefully improve life in this beautiful parish I was happy to agree and I joined the council in 2015.
