Ivinghoe Parish Council have been advised that the main road through Horton is to be closed for resurfacing works. This is what we are aware of:

Closure: From Slapton Turn, through Horton, to 100m past the Cheddington Turn (Ivinghoe side). This will be for 24 hours per day from 2nd October till 13th October. This will be followed by night time closures only for 3 days from 16th October.

Alternative Routes: None have yet been defined, but it is expected to be as follows. From Ivinghoe, route via Edlesborough and Great Billington to Leighton Buzzard.

We are expecting the closure to be signposted early, probably at Handpost Cottages on the Tring side of Ivinghoe directing all traffic towards Edlesborough. We also expect to have a road closure sign outside the Kings Head. There will still be access to Ford End, Great Gap, Maud Janes Close and Ladysmith Road as well as the farms as far as Brownlow Bridge. There will be no access to Cheddington or Cheddington Station via this route, for these you will need to go via Pitstone.

There will also be a knock-on effect with school bus routes from Cheddington through Great Gap to Cottesloe and Tring Schools. To date, Bucks CC have not notified any changes. It is not expected to affect the Ivinghoe Aston school bus.

The good news is that Horton, Great Gap and Ford End will be traffic free for the best part of 3 weeks.

The bad news is that although they will not be official diversions additional traffic is to be expected in Slapton, Ivinghoe Aston and Mentmore.

Prep work starts tomorrow. 3-way traffic lights 09:30 - 15:00 at the junction of Station Road and B488 Ivinghoe side of Horton. Hopefully for one day only. Info from BucksCC roadworks, https://roadworks.org/?103070936

The diversion route has now been issued, see http://www.ivinghoepc.org.uk/shared/attachments.asp?f=f5a074d0%2D9b4c%2D4ef8%2Da35a%2D5dd1e064b8dc%2Epdf

Final plans are now in place.

Station Road, Ivinghoe will be blocked off to through traffic, only vehicles with legitimate business and residents will be allowed to drive down Station Road. The entrance to the road will be controlled by a manned barrier.

All traffic from the Tring direction wishing to travel through to Leighton Buzzard will be diverted towards Edlesborough at the Handpost Cottage / The Warren junction.

There is still likely to be stray vehicles within the village trying to do impossible u-turns, etc, so please be on your guard.

For Ivinghoe Aston, additional diversion signs are to be placed up on the main road directing all diverted traffic towards either Edlesborough or Ivinghoe, depending on direction of travel. Additional signage to state that the IA turning is unsuitable for HGV traffic will also be put in place. It is possible that people with local knowledge and/or SatNavs may well venture through IA. Ivinghoe Parish Council will ensure that the speed camera will be in the village, times to vary, to help control vehicle speed.

Non-residents of Ivinghoe Aston and Slapton. Could you please be respectful to the residents of both Ivinghoe Aston and Slapton and where possible please adhere to the diversion route, many thanks in advance.
