SP Summer Football League 2018

Kings Hill Sports Park, Summer League 2018

Final: Review

Tuesday 24th July 2018

Tonight saw the conclusion of our inaugural Summer League. 5 clubs battled for the trophy and in the end we had two worthy finalists. FC Revo made it to the final undefeated and East Malling Reserves only dropped points in a defeat to FC Revo in the group stage.

The game started as expected and both sides took twenty minutes to get any rhythm going in their play. On twenty minutes FC Revo had the first real chance of the game when a floated cross came in from the left wing and Revo’s towering centre back got his header all wrong. That header fell to Revo’s right winger whom put in another floated cross, but again the centre back couldn’t make his height advantage count and headed high over the crossbar.

FC Revo started to dictate the game from this point and started finding particular joy every time their left sided pair received the ball. Despite Revo’s structured play, the deadlock was broken from an indirect free kick. Revo delivered a pacey ball into the box and from the edge of the box a Revo player latched onto the East Malling clearance and struck home a half volley (27).

Although possession was fairly even it was the Revo lads that were creating the more menacing looking attacks. With half time looming some good East Malling pressure in the final third combined with some defensive hesitation saw a deflected pass land behind both Revo centre backs and an East Malling striker ran on to confidently finish (38).

Half Time 1-1

The second half started brighter than the first with the East Malling keeper in particular making 2 fantastic saves.

The game became must better from a spectator point of view as the midfield battle becoming a particular highlight. Chances of note dried up but this did not dampen the quality of the match at all.

With 10 minutes left on the clock and fatigue amidst pre-season kicking in, the midfield started to lose grip of the game and the passing from both sides grew longer. An end to end battle continued with several chances falling to both sides, the biggest of which fell to Revo in the last minute. Great wing play saw a Revo striker one on one with the East Malling keeper whom just managed to get a body part in the way. Penalties!
