Kingsclere Medical Practice
Out of Hours
When We Are Closed
Health information on the telephone is available 24 hours a day, from NHS 111 by dialing 111
The practice is an active member of NHUC, a primary care service that provides medical services when we are closed. The service is available for patients who have serious concerns about their health which cannot wait until their own surgery opens. You can access this service by dialing 111 and a call handler will take details of your problem and arrange the help you need.
If appropriate arrangements will then be made for you to attend for a consultation at the out-of-hours medical centre in Basingstoke or to speak to a doctor or nurse on the telephone. Please note that patients are only seen at the out-of-hours medical centre by appointment. If it is agreed that the patient is too ill to travel, arrangements will be made for a home visit by one of the mobile doctors.
The Emergency Department at The North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke is open 24 hours a day to treat life-threatening emergencies and accidental injuries only. West Berkshire Community Hospital located in Thatcham has a Minor Injuries Unit, which is open from 8am to 10pm every day, but has no resident medical staff.
There are leaflets available at the Health Centre giving advice about how to deal with simple illnesses which can be very helpful. Many people also have access to the Internet. We recommend “NHS Choices” web site, which offers 24 hour access to health information and advice. They can be particularly useful in helping to decide when it is necessary to contact a doctor.
