SPEEDING IN KIRTON VILLAGE

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH VOLUNTEER IF SO PLEASE READ ON:

At our last Parish Council Meeting we agreed to investigate the viability of introducing a community speed watch group. This follows complaints from residents regarding drivers speeding through our village. Although the situation has improved with the introduction of the speed camera vehicle, there are still a significant number of drivers who flout the limit and introduce danger into our community, especially early in the morning and in the evening when the speed van is unlikely to be present. Community speed watch is seen as a way of trying to control this.

After consulting with the community speed watch coordinator, i have established speed watchers operate in groups of 5 and are issued with a speed watch gun when required to identify speeding drivers. Once identified and reported the drivers are issued with a warning letter from the Police.

Importantly all speed watch volunteers must be trained to operate the gun and as a group.

Therefore, before we can operate effectively we need at least 10 trained volunteers to come forward.

THE SYSTEM HAS PROVED TO BE EFFECTIVE
