Kirton and its surrounding areas have a rich tapestry of historical interests and facts. For example, did you know that Boughton Camp or Boughton POW Camp as it was, was a significant presence during the 1940,s with many of the German Solders working on the local farms and becoming friends with the local people.?!

There are only a few lifelong residents now left here in Kirton and we are in danger of losing information about our rich heritage. Therefore, we are trying to preserve the history and pass it onto the next generation. We want to put together an exhibition of photos from 1900 to date which will be on show and then archived for the future. This is all so very fascinating and we would dearly love to look back in time as it was, and how it has had an effect on our community as we are now

We are at the very early stages of our project, but are trying to get a display put together for 9th May at the Village Barn Dance - which is being held to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (8th May) and VJ Day (15th August).

To do this we really do need your help

How Can You help?

So, this is an appeal for photographs of the village, its buildings and people, village events, historic and recent with the view to having them displayed. Please have a rummage through your photo albums or photo "boxes" or chat with relatives from the village who may have old pictures or information

Attached are 4 examples… but anything of interest from weddings in the Church to the Olympic flame. Any information about the pictures - dates, people’s names etc would also be useful.

Ideally they could be emailed to Bob Walters at lis2bobs@aol.com or posted into Bobs letter box at Greensleeves, Main Street, Kirton (the cottage with the fantastic Christmas lights next door but one to The Fox heading towards The Church) or put through the letter box of Jo Briggs at 12 Kirton Court. PLEASE SUPPLY US WITH AN ADDRESS SO THAT THEY CAN BE RETURNED.

Many Thanks ..We look forward to seeing what can be unearthed and sharing it with you
