Laceby in Bloom

Laceby In Bloom (LIB) was formed in 2016 with the intention of improving the village by siting planters at strategic sites on verges where they give the most impact.

With 10 members, LIB began tidying up parts of the village that were in need of some TLC. Litter picks were organised, with the first one covering the entirety of the village and producing over 80 sacks of rubbish.

LIB was able to draw on sponsorship from several businesses as well as Laceby Village Council, Ward Cllr Hasthorpe, and the Solar Farm, which enabled them to purchase planters, tools and equipment.

In 2017, LIB entered the Britain in Bloom competition and were awarded a silver certificate. In 2018, they entered the competition again and came away with a silver gilt award.

All went well until the pandemic struck, which devastated membership as some helpers were not well enough to return. LIB continued with the team they had, concentrating on planting key sites around the village.

In 2022 a very kind neighbour helped to set up a Facebook page, immediately raising the profile of the group and encouraging residents to plant containers in the area where they live. LIB now has twelve or so residents taking responsibility for planting and watering the 17 planters, with the 3 large hanging baskets cared for by the Pre-School.

Two gardens have been created — one at Pawson’s Corner and another at the western (Caistor Road) entrance to the village.
