The Stanford Trust owns the land and building known as The Stanford Centre and was built from funds received from a compulsory purchase order of Trust land by the Local Authority. It was officially opened in 1975 and is now run and operated by a group of Volunteers known as The Stanford Centre Group.
The community library housed in the Stanford Centre is open on a Tuesday and a Thursday between 2pm and 4pm. The library is run entirely by volunteers and has become a focal point of the community since North East Lincolnshire Council closed the library 7 years ago. The library depends on donations for most of its book stock although there are surplus library books for sale at 10p. This money enables us to buy a few new books. The library has a comprehensive range of resources to borrow free of charge. There is a wide range of books by popular authors, information books to browse, large print books and audio books. There is also a collection of books on the local history of the area, and the children’s library is extremely popular.
The library works closely with the local school, with pupils visiting the library once a week to borrow books to support their project work.
