Lewes Farmers Market

The market was established in 1997 and has grown to become one of the most vibrant and successful Farmers’ Markets in Sussex.

Each month we have nearly 40 producers, offering a wide range of both staple and specialist local produce, plus seasonal guest producers to tie in with the growing year.

The market meets on the first and third Saturday of each month on Cliffe precinct from 9.am - 1pm.

Accredited by FARMA, our stallholders are all involved in the production of their produce and are based within a 40 mile radius of the town. We visit all our producers to ensure we understand the growing or production practise and that it meets the required criteria.

Lewes Farmers’ Market was one of the first farmers’ markets to be set up in the country (Bath being the very first). Common Cause Co-operative ran its first pilot market in October 1998, and the market has grown in size and popularity ever since. We currently have just under 40 stallholders

Our producers are always happy to talk about their products with you: how it was reared, grown, or made. They may provide you with recipes, and information how to get the best from their product, and many give out tastings so you can try before you buy. If a stall-holder does not have what you are looking for, or you are unsure if they have a speciality item such as gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan, please ask them; they may well be able to help. Many of our producers have won local, regional and national awards for their produce, and some have won international awards. So if you want the World’s Best Cheese, award winning fruit vinegars or locally baked bread,, the Lewes Farmers’ Market is the place to come!
