Lockswood Bowling Club
Matches and Fixtures
You've got the bowls and shoes, you've joined a club, what do you do now? Not ready for full-on competitions but looking for some purpose to your playing? At Lockswood we provide a variety of playing at various levels of skill and experience. Once you want to move away from roll-ups try the Spoon Drive, this runs on Friday evenings in the summer and Saturday afternoons in the winter. It is played as three series of 6 ends and although you play as a team you have individual scores. The highest score after 18 ends have been played wins a crested spoon. The Accumulator running on Saturday afternoons through the summer takes your ten best scores from the series and positions are posted in the club. You can play as often as you like but only your top ten scores are taken into account. Prizes are given for overall winner and 3 runners-up.
The next stage is to apply for a friendly game played against another club. About a month before the match an availability list will be put up giving date, time, venue and format of the match. About a week before the match the Friendlies Secretary will display team lists chosen from that first list. If you still wish to play tick your name, if you are no longer available for that game delete your name and a reserve will be played. Friendly matches are a great way to experience other greens and meet other bowlers.
Finally we have the full league games. Lockswood plays in both the Gosport & Fareham and the Southampton & District leagues. You will need to register at the start of the season to be eligible for these leagues.
Whatever your level of play or expectation there is a game for you. You will be encouraged to play but not harassed. If your pleasure is bowling every Sunday morning with a few friends that is your right and nobody will challenge it.
