The following was received by the Parish Council and they would like to give residents the opportunity of donating to this cause should they so wish. Contact details are to be found at the end of the letter:

I am writing to ask whether you would be willing to provide a financial donation towards the work of Victim Support.

Victim Support is a charity independent of Government and the statutory bodies in the Criminal Justice System. Our Kent based service relies upon a dedicated team of around 40 volunteers drawn from across the county, some of whom may well live in your own Parish. Our primary funding comes from the Office of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner but we are aiming to raise additional income, which will be used to further expand and improve our service.

We support victims across a vast range of crimes, including burglary, car crime, theft, assault, domestic abuse, stalking, fraud, serious sexual violence, cyber-crime and hate crime. Our service is free, available even if the service user has not reported the matter to the police and can be accessed at any time after the crime has occurred.

Located at the Victim Centre in Compass House, our service is dedicated to residents of Kent and Medway who have been affected by crime. We contacted approximately 90,000 individuals last year and anticipate contacting even more this year. We were able to offer a variety of support options including; emotional support, advocacy, practical support, such as the supply of ‘free’ personal alarms and other security items, the provision of information specific to the service user’s needs and referrals/signposting to other support agencies where appropriate. For those victims with particular financial difficulties, we have been able to provide food vouchers for local Supermarkets, or even travel costs which have allowed them to attend support sessions.

Since the Covid pandemic began, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our service remains accessible to clients and have continued to provide telephone and virtual support throughout the pandemic, continuously looking to improve services and to keep up with the high demand on our service.

To achieve our ambitions we will continue to rely upon the generosity of our local communities, and I would ask you to consider the support of our work this year.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Yours faithfully,

Rebekah Vela-Castro Senior Service Delivery Manager
