Booking a drive
Our destinations
We provide transport from Lymington to
- clinic and similar appointments with GPs, dentists, chiropodists, physiotherapists and opticians
- hospital appointments for day or in-patient care
We can take you to appointments within the Lymington area and as far away as Portsmouth and Basingstoke. Hospitals in Southampton, Bournemouth and Salisbury are regular destinations.
Making a booking
Please try to give us 2 - 3 weeks notice of your appointment.
To book a drive, please phone our answering service on 01590 679187 and leave the following details:
- the name and address of the person requiring the drive, also their contact details (phone number and/or email)
- the location, date and time of the medical appointment
- details of any special needs
- does the person have walking difficulties?
- will they be taking a walker or wheelchair?
- will they be taking a companion to assist them?
One of our duty coordinators will contact you, usually within 24 hours, to talk to you about your booking. See our Privacy Notice for details of how we use your information.
Our answering service accepts messages 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays). Alternatively, you may request a drive using this form. Again, one of our duty coordinators will contact you.
In the event that your appointment is cancelled or changed, please let us know as soon as possible.
What happens next
Our volunteer driver will contact you, usually the evening before your appointment, to confirm the details of your appointment and to agree the pick-up time and location.
On the day, please
- be ready in good time
- bring your appointment letter
- bring your mobile phone (if you have one)
- bring your Blue Badge (if you have one)
- have cash for the driver
Before going into your appointment, make sure you have the driver's phone number. You will need to contact them when you are ready to go home. You should also let them know if there are any delays meaning that your appointment will take longer than expected.
Things to be aware of
Our volunteer drivers are not trained carers.
Our drivers will assist you in getting in and out of their car, and will happily offer a steadying hand while you walk to your appointment. But if you use a wheelchair you must be accompanied by a companion who is able to provide the necessary assistance.
If you have a walker or wheelchair you must make this clear when booking the drive as otherwise the driver may not be able to deal with it.
Please read our guidance notes on use of mobility aids
