Volunteer Drivers

What's involved in being a volunteer driver?

We're always looking for more volunteer drivers.  Volunteer driving is a great way to support your local community at times to support you.  It gets you out of the house and you will meet some fascinating people with interesting stories to tell.  You give your time and we cover your mileage expenses.

How do I get started?

To become a volunteer for Lymington Care Group you will need to provide references and have a satisfactory DBS check, but we help with this and the cost is covered. You will also need to familiarise yourself with our Safeguarding Policy.

How does it work?

You use your own car to collect passengers from home, take them to appointments and return them home.  We have a mix of local and distance (eg Southampton & Bournemouth) destinations.  You choose when, where and how often you drive.

Do I need to tell my insurer?

Most insurance companies cover volunteer driving at no extra cost and not all companies even need to be told.  See the attached guidance note from the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
