Allotment Rental 2026–2027
Dear Allotment Holder,
2025 was another challenging year for growers – quite the opposite to the previous year – but I shouldn’t complain too much about the sun as it was a glorious year. Once again I have seen amazing produce and beautiful flowers as I have walked around the allotments.
Allotment Competition- The 2025 allotment competition was held on the morning of Saturday 5th July. We had the great pleasure of being invited to visit 9 allotment gardens and after much deliberation the Judges decided the following:
BEST KEPT ALLOTMENT
1st Place – Ian Fender
2nd Place - Billy Trotter
CHAIRMANS AWARD
Louise Robson
The judges would like to congratulate the winners and thank and complement all the gardeners for their hard work and dedication in 2025 – it was a tough year but despite the changeable weather it was amazing to see such well-kept and loved allotment gardens.
Garden Plots - We have welcomed several new tenants onto the allotments this year, but we still have a few waiting for a garden plot - to ensure all our plots are used we have taken the decision to refuse to renew any plot that has sat dormant/is over grown and in our opinion was not used in the year 2025/2026. If you have not used your plot to its full potential this year or if it is just getting a bit too much, could I please ask you to consider giving it up so it can be used by another resident of Lynemouth, so they can get the pleasure that you have had in the past. We will be taking a firm line with tenants who fail to make good and proper use of their plot or fail to keep it tidy in 2026.
Horse Plots - the committee will take the same view with horse plots as they do with garden plots - keep them tidy and safe with appropriate fencing or lose your plot. Fences are the responsibility of the tenant, failure to maintain your fences and keep your horse secure will result in termination of your tenancy.
Water – once again we have seen a spike in water consumption, we did not have a leak this time but we do note that some tenants are not collecting rain water and are filling tanks direct from the water supply - can we remind everyone that it is a stipulation of your tenancy to collect and use rain water. If we do not see a drop in water usage in 2026/27 then we will have to increase the rent for the following year. Anyone caught abusing/misusing the water supply will be given 1 month notice to quit.
Main Gate - if you need a gate key please contact the Clerk - keys are £12 each. Can I please remind you to lock the gate once you have driven through it, failing to lock the gate behind you breaches the security of all our plots, warnings will be issued to anyone failing to lock the gate behind them.
Rent for 2026 - 2027 - the Allotments Committee took the decision NOT to raise the rent for 2026/27 and it will remain at £60 per plot.. The rent will be reviewed again in 2026.
Plot number sign – A reminder that all plots MUST display a sign with your plot number on or by your gate/gate post. The lettering/numbers must be no smaller than 2 inches or 50mm high. The committee have taken this decision to help with the reporting of faults/water leaks and the safety of our allotment users - any person failing to comply with this instruction by 1st March 2026 will not be able to renew their tenancy for the year 2026/2027 and any rents paid will be refunded and 30 days’ notice given to quit.
