The 2022 season has started with a mixture of in-house competitions, friendly matches, and league matches.

The Mike Trimble Memorial match was played on Saturday 9 April in good spirits. Thank you to the organizers for getting as many people as possible to play.

The first home "friendly" match was on Saturday 23 April with Haydon Wick visiting from Swindon. The weather was kind that day and the visitors enjoyed the experience of playing on the Malmesbury artificial green, however, they did not adapt to the fast playing conditions so they lost the match. Thank you to those who provided the tea. Their culinary skills have not deteriorated during the lockdowns.

Friday 29 April saw the first "Tea & Biscuits" league game with the team traveling to Chippenham Park to play on grass. The Malmesbury team adapted to the conditions to win overall by 9-5 in points and 70 to 61 in shots. A warm welcome to Brian Reynolds and Gary Payne playing their first match on a Friday afternoon.

On Sunday1 May, Malmesbury sent 12 hardy souls to Broughton Gifford to play on grass. The home team was very welcoming which made up for the inclement weather. Thermals should have been included in the kit list for this fixture. Somehow Malmesbury managed to adapt to the conditions and win the "friendly" match overall.

This week sees the annual grudge match, Malmesbury A v Malmesbury B, in preparation for the Cotswold League beginning on Tuesday 10 May.

Malmesbury has an away "friendly" match at Calne on Saturday 7th May.

Malmesbury A plays Frampton-on-Severn on Tuesday 10 May at home, and Malmesbury B plays Dursley away on the same day.

Finally, here is a review by a visiting guest bowler who dropped in to try out the artificial green

"I have just spent a lovely afternoon at your club trying out the very impressive artificial green. Wow, I was blown away firstly with the warm welcome and kindness of the members present. (Albert, Mark, Brian, and several others I didn't have time to catch their names) Secondly, the smoothness and speed of the rinks, if I won the lottery our club would be getting one for the sheer enjoyment of playing on such a surface. Thanks also to the President who invited me to have a roll-up, what a great club you have."
