Win cements in Malmesbury at Top of Division 2 - Update
Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club
Tuesday 20 July was a beautiful evening for bowls. The clear blue skies made it a joy to play the game. Falcon Club, from Painswick, was the visiting team for the last home game of the season. They arrived with a positive, friendly attitude looking to enjoy the evening on the 'Malmesbury Mat'.
Brad Burne played his first league game for Malmesbury. He put in a good performance as he is a very experienced bowler from South Africa. Alan Rice-Smith, another recent recruit, played well as the lead for his rink. It was good to John Smith skipping as Roy Wilcox and Brian Reynolds were resting. Finally, Rob Stinchcombe's holiday is over so he will not be able to play for the team in the last two fixtures, this is unfortunate for the club as he has played well in the league games during his holiday. Many thanks to Rob.
Tim's rink had a tough, gritty game against Falcon skipped by Jeff, who played the game in great spirit all evening. Tim's rink was 0-10 down after 6 ends. However, Tim, Malc, Andy, and Paul pulled up their proverbial socks and rolled up their proverbial sleeves, and fought back. By the 14th end, they were 14-12 up, but Falcon pulled ahead again to 14-16 on the 16th end. Tim pulled one back on the 17th end to be 15-16 down, but all was not lost as Tim's rink scored 5 on the last end to win 20-16. Well done to Tim's rink for their positive attitude and their belief that they would win the game.
The other two rinks' games were not so dramatic. John, with Brad, Bob and Alan, won 30-10. Ruby, with Bob, Derek, and Mike, won 21-10.
Malmesbury cemented in their position at the top of Division 2 with a 10-0 points win, by 71-36 shots.
In the other games, Fairford 'B' won away at Frampton-on-Severn by 10-0 - 75-32 shots, and Wotton-under-Edge won away at Nailsworth by 7-3 - 44-38 shots.
Malmesbury has a lead of 19 points with two away fixtures left at Fairford 'B' and Nailsworth, however, Wotton-under-Edge has a game in hand and they are in the third position, 20 points behind Malmesbury. http://www.bowlsnews.co.uk/division2.html
