FIRST ANNUAL JUBILEE BOWL
Market Bosworth Bowls Club
The First Annual Jubilee Bowl
With the temperature climbing up to the high 20’s members of Market Bosworth Bowls Club gathered at Rectory Lane to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Unfortunately, this event was to be postponed from Jubilee weekend due to it being too wet, even for bowling.
Teams were sorted and then bowling began, all hoping to get their hands on the new Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Bowl trophy.
Following Bowls England new ‘Play Bowls’ format, we played 2 sets of 3 ends, scoring 3,2,1 for the nearest 3 woods at each end. If the teams were level in sets, then they played a ‘one wood each’ Tie break.
After 2 games the heat was getting the better of most of us so we all retired to the clubhouse for well earned refreshments. The centre piece were the excellent collection of puddings provided by several ladies, all of which would do justice to any Jubilee Banquet. Needless to say, they were well-received and readily consumed.
However, the Trophy was still to play for and there were 3 teams in contention. After a short consultation it was agreed that the Trophy would be decided by a 3-way Tie Break.
Congratulations to Jane Harris and Chris Biggs winning the Tie Break with almost the last wood bowled and so are first winners of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Bowl.
A big thank you to all who helped make the Jubilee Bowl event a resounding success. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
