Unsung Hero Nomination
I would like to nominate David Linney of Market Bosworth Bowling Club for the award of ‘Unsung hero’
We all know of the many members who take on various roles at their club and work tirelessly to make the most of the area of their responsibility. But seldom do we encounter a member who, not only performs their role exceptionally well, but also contributes to many other aspects of the club.
David Linney of Market Bosworth Bowls Club is just one such a valued member. When he joined our club he and his wife were new to bowls. But they soon involved themselves in both the bowling and social side of club life.
More recently, David has taken on the responsibility of the Property Manager and under his tenure the list of improvements has been never ending. We now have a wonderful Clock on the clubhouse roof, a new honours board, a new kitchen arrangement and freshly painted clubhouse rooms.
His contribution to the wellbeing of the club also extends elsewhere. He is a key member of the Green Team, turning up every Monday morning ready to fulfil whatever job needs to be done. As part of his keen interest in producing the perfect bowling surface he has attended Green Management courses and worked tirelessly to raise funds to purchase a new mower and more recently, a Verticutter.
His efforts to raise funds for the club have involved endless form filling for grants from the local and parish councils. Many of these have been successful.
He is often the prime mover in organising and running the club’s social events, such as successful Horse-racing evenings and Club Nights.
But his main asset is that he often sees those jobs that others never do. Not only does he see them, but he does something about them too.
The result of all his efforts means that Market Bosworth Bowling Club is now in much better health now than every before.
David is also a committed family man and can often be seen enthusiastically supporting his grandchildren playing football at weekends, whatever the weather.
David is a truly valuable and valued member of Market Bosworth Bowling Club, in many ways he is the heartbeat of the club. He has given so much to the club that the award of ‘Unsung Hero’ would be a just recognition of all the time and effort he has put into the development and progress of the club in recent years.
