Melling Parish Council – Chairman’s Report 2020/21

Chairman Andrew Kyle reflected on a challenging year for Melling, with Parish Council meetings continuing remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Council continued to support the community through grants and volunteering, while working with Sefton Council on planning, litter, dog fouling and road safety concerns.

Councillors supported the Melling Volunteers, helping vulnerable residents with food deliveries, shopping and regular contact. A grant was also provided to Melling in Bloom for a lawnmower and planters to help maintain local green spaces.

The Council continued to raise concerns over proposed developments and traffic through Melling, while two Councillors began training with Merseyside Safer Roads Watch to help tackle speeding.

New Melling boundary signs were also installed following a request to Sefton Council.

Despite the pandemic preventing the usual Christmas and Remembrance events, the Parish Council supported local children with Christmas selection boxes and marked Remembrance with a wreath at the Lychgate.

Looking ahead, the Council remained committed to representing residents and working to keep Melling a safe and enjoyable place to live and work.
