Councillors

The Parish Council in Michaelstow has five members who are elected every four years. Empty seats are filled by ‘co-option’ and members of the community are invited or put themselves forward for this position if a vacancy ever becomes available outside of the election schedule.

At the moment the members are:

Jem Marshall - Chairman

Jem grew up in Michaelstow before leaving for college in 1981. He subsequently lived in Wadebridge for 20 years & returned to the family home following his mother’s passing in 2007. He says he can’t get excited about politics at any level, but joined the council as a true local to do his bit to maintain Michaelstow as a great place to live. He has worked for Mole Valley Farmers since 1987.

Anthony O’B french Blake - Councillor

Anthony is a co-opted Councillor. As a former diplomat, he was raised in Cornwall to the age of 17 and returned here 18 years ago. His key concern is to protect and promote the integrity and values of a rural community in the face of a population of which 89% are now urban dwellers.

Richard Whitby - Councillor

Richard is an accountant and entrepreneur who moved to Michaelstow in 2012 with his family after many years holidaying in the area and deciding to move here permanently. The strong community spirit here is one of the reasons why he chose the village, and by getting involved he hopes to help keep that spirit alive for many more years.

Robin East - Councillor

Has been a commercial horticulturalist all of his working life, running Michaelstow Nurseries for the last 35 years. He has very little spare time as a result but chooses to give some of it to the community of Michaelstow through his voluntary membership of the Parish Council.

Peter Jago - Councillor

Peter is another committed local who is passionate about our ecology and protecting the habitats which occupy our parish alongside us parishioners. Peter joined the Parish Council in

Julie Fairman - Parish Clerk

Julie joined Michaelstow as its Parish Clerk in 2025. She has been a Parish Clerk for a number of parishes in Cornwall for over five years. She lives in a neighbouring parish and therefore understands the intricacies, needs and commitment of a rural parish.

Cllr. David Garrigan - Cornwall Council Representative

Cllr Garrigan is Cornwall Ward Cllr. for St Teath, St Breward, Delabole and Tintagel.
