A study conducted by Harvard University has shown that volunteering - and altruistic acts in general - can help us live longer.

The study found a significantly reduced risk of mortality, less chance of developing physical impairments and an improved sense of wellbeing in US adults over 50 who volunteer for two hours a week, compared to those who don't.

The study, which was made up of 13,000 participants, shows that in addition to volunteerism strengthening community, it can also enrich the person's life. It can create stronger bonds with other people, create a sense of purpose, and reduce feelings of loneliness, depression and hopelessness.

Milford is a parish with a wonderful community spirit, which has been especially proven to us in recent times. Whether it's being part of the Mutual Aid Group, or another voluntary group home or away, these acts of kindness are proving to be positive in many ways!
