A few years ago, pre-Covid, we used to play a few friendly matches each year against local clubs. This year we were pleased to get back into the swing of things by arranging a home and away challenge match against Atcham Bowling Club.

A few of our members are also members of Atcham so it makes absolute sense that our first friendly match should be against them although, of course, we all know that once we step on to the green friendships get put to one side for an hour or so.

Nevertheless on Saturday 12th August our Much Wenlock team battled it out on our home green against brave opposition from Atcham. The match included 14 players on both sides and at the end of the day Much Wenlock came out winners by 34 shots. That is not the end of the story though.

We are playing for a brand new trophy and although Much Wenlock won the first leg, the trophy will go to the team which has the best shots advantage after both the home and away legs. Of course this means that Much Wenlock will enter the 'lions den' at Atcham on Saturday 9th September for the return leg so we can expect a few fireworks on the day.

We had a few Much Wenlock newbies in the team at home so thanks and well done to them for taking part. May the best team on the day at Atcham win and we will see how the overall score comes out. One thing for sure is that we will keep the fixture going so whoever wins and keeps the trophy for this year it will all be up for grabs again next year. Most of all we will all remain friends and look forward to next years battle.
