Over 20 members took to the green on Sunday 3rd September to challenge for the title of 2023 Open Triples Champions.

This year there was a fabulous mix of new and old in that the competitors included members who had overseen the rejuvenation of the club in the 1950's and also players completely new to crown green bowling and who are participating in this year's novice bowlers league. The green was in superb condition although surprisingly a heavy dew had persisted despite the high temperatures so the early matches had to cope with heavier conditions than expected. The heat of the afternoon, although welcomed at first, took it's toll on some players who found it a little overbearing.

The field also included the three title holders from last year albeit this year they were in different teams. The first two rounds were closley contested with only a few points separating the winners from losers. Two teams fought through to the final though and they still included two of last years champions proving that last year's performance was no fluke.

The final had Mervyn Jarman's team including Terry Yates and Julie Hutt lining up against Tony Swales team including Jeremy Good and Paula Sivertsen. An enthralling final ensued with Tony's team streaking away at the beginning only to be reeled in by Mervyn's team. Alas the comeback faltered despite Mervyn producing a shot of the afternoon in the penultimate end by taking shot when he was 5 down, absolutely brilliant!!! So Tony's team won the title and well deserved it was too!

Our photo's show the finalists before the last game and the winners receiving the trophy from President Don Davies.
