Notice of Co-option

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy has occurred in the office of Parish Councillor for Newington Parish Council. The Parish Council can now fill the casual vacancy by co-option.

A person co-opted to fill a casual vacancy on a Parish Council must fulfil the same criteria as a person being formally nominated for a candidate at an election. To qualify you must either be a registered elector in the Parish and/or during the previous 12 months prior the appointment of co-option, either occupied as owner, or been a tenant of any land or premises in the parish, or had your principal or only place of work in the Parish, or have resided either in the parish or within 3 miles (4.8km) of the parish boundary.

The person should also not be disqualified for election under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972. Broadly, this relates to holding a paid office within a local authority, bankruptcy, having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than 3 months without the option of a fine during the 5 years preceding the co-option, or being disqualified under any enactment relating to corrupt or illegal practices.

The closing date for the submission of completed application forms to the Clerk, either by post or email, is Friday 10th July 2020

Prospective candidates will be invited to attend an Ordinary Meeting of the Parish Council at a date to be arranged to make a public presentation.
