This afternoon, the club held a Garden Party at Malshanger to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. The idea for the Party came from our Vice President Lesley Allard who, along with her sub committee, laid on a wonderful afternoon that was appreciated by over 100 people including guests such as Sir Michael and Lady Colman. We were also delighted that several Past Presidents, who are no longer bowling, were able to join us. We were blessed with a warm sunny day and as we arrived we were pleased to find that, on this occasion, both Pimms and Prosecco were available. As members sat on the lawns there was much to entertain them. They could take part in a Treasure Hunt in the grounds of Malshanger House or participate in a number of games/competitions, the prizes for which were supplied by our sponsors Eighth Wealth. Alternatively they could sit, relax and listen to two separate and very enjoyable musical groups the Steventon Yukulele Band and Musicality featuring David Allard, our BBC South Today Presenter. Afternoon Tea was also advertised as being available but we were treated to a veritable feast including numerous varieties of finger sandwiches, scones (with the cream on first), raspberry meringues and strawberries and cream. All this was followed by home made cakes and when we had failed to polish it all off we then had to eat the special Anniversary Cake baked by Sandra Lee. The afternoon came to an end too soon but before we began the clean up President Peter Bown, himself a founder member, paid tribute to all those who had served the club so well over 40 years and thanked all those who had worked so hard on putting up the marquee, catering, operating the bar and doing all the other tasks that had led to such a successful and enjoyable day.
