This evening, at Loddon Vale, Oakley took on AWE in the semi-final of the Cusheon Trophy looking to reach the Final of this event, that is specifically for outdoor clubs, for the fifth successive year. Fielding a very young team, with only Terry Heath being over the age of 20, Oakley roared out of the blocks picking up a 5 on the first end and by 5 ends had a commanding 16-0 lead. Substantial leads of this size have been known to cause complacency amongst Oakley players but by 10 ends the lead had increased to 22-3, by which time the Oakley supporters were becoming increasingly confident of a win. A slight rally, over the next 5 ends, saw AWE reduce the deficit to 18 shots but Oakey were not to be denied and the team of Nicole Rogers, Alice Lovett, Terry Heath and Ashley Nethercliffe triumphed eventually by 34-8 with AWE conceding after 17 ends. In the final, next Saturday 14th April , Oakley will, once again, meet a Basingstoke Town team.
