The Drawn Fours held today at Malshanger saw 36 players participating in three league with the league winners and the best runner up progressing to the semi-finals. Rinks skipped by Barry Lee, Ric Newson, Valerie Ryan and Martin Smith reached the semi-finals and then we found ourselves with a repeat of the 2018 Final, Lee vs Newson. Would it be the same result? Ric's team comprised Jean Bordley, Marion Bringes and Jim Fitzgerald whilst Barry had with him Nicole Rogers, Peter Stewart and Richard Startin. Having won their three previous games by convincing margins Barry's team started as strong favourites and after 3 of the 8 eight ends they led 3-0 before Ric took the next 2 ends to tie up the match. The sixth end was critical. Ric's team lay 4 shots but Barry's final bowl took a wicked deflection off a wide bowl and ended up shot. Barry repeated the feat on the next end. Not for nothing is he sometimes referred to as "Wicker Lee". Needing two on the last end, Ric was unable to get a score so Barry gained revenge for last year's defeat, deservedly so as his team over the day scored 46 shots to 16.
