This morning, for the second time in three years, an Oakley rink was looking to win the County Senior Fours Final and although this time it was a women's rink of Mary Varndell, Sue Dixon, Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers, the result was no different from 2017. Oakley came second. It was an inauspicious start with Oakley dropping a three on the first end and, although they got on the scoreboard on end 3, further counts of four and three meant that by the 8th end Oakley trailed 1-15. From there it was always going to be an uphill struggle but, to their credit Oakley dug in, winning the next 6 ends, and for a moment, with the score 10-15 at 14 ends, it looked as if a comeback victory might just be achievable. It was not to be. Milton Park Ladies lifted their game scoring another four and after 17 ends Oakley conceded with the score 10-21. The Oakley team's disappointment at losing will have been compounded by the fact that in the other major championship events a place in the final leads automatically to both teams representing Hampshire at the Nationals at Leamington, where three of the team have never yet competed. They should, however, console themselves with the knowledge they finished County runners up - no mean achievement in a County with 110 clubs.
