This morning at Leamington,  Heather Statham faced a difficult task as she took on Alex Jacobs of Wiltshire in the 2nd round of the National Two Wood Singles.  Heather began well, taking an early lead, but by halfway the 2015 National Senior Singles Winner had crawled her way back into the game and took the lead at 7-6.  By 15 ends Alex had moved out to an 11-8 lead and it seemed as if the more experienced bowler would cruise home.   Heather, however, was not done and at 18 ends she went 12-11 up.  The next two ends were shared, so Heather went into the last end 1 up.   It was nail biting stuff  but Heather's second bowl ended inches from the jack and when Alex failed to change matters Heather had won 14-12.  Her second game of the day, against P Browne of Northumberland  began badly as Heather went 6-0 down but by 10 ends the gap had been reduced to 1 shot  and the Oakley supporters began to hope another surprise was on the cards. It was not to be.  Heather, over the later stages, was unable to contain her opponent and lost 16-9.   Heather was naturally disappointed, feeling she had, in this game, performed below her best  but she should console herself in the knowledge that she had achieved so much after just 3 years in the game.
