This evening at Atherley, Heather Statham and Spencer Kerley were, at County Quarter Final stage, attempting to book places at the National Championships at Leamington. For Spencer, it was disappointment as, in his first game, he came up against the 2013 Champion Michael Aldren of Southsea Waverley and, after a titanic battle, he went down, after an extra end, to a 14 - 15 defeat. Michael then went on to win the semi final and qualify for the Nationals. Heather, however, was the star of the evening, as, by far the youngest competitor left in the competition, she comfortably beat Caroline Cuerdon of Moneyfields 17-5 before recording a 13-5 victory over Sue Lewis Parkes of Waterside. Heather will now, in the County Final, play another Amy Rose player, Laura Kitcher of Kings Park with both players going forward to represent Hampshire in the National Finals. Both Heather and Spencer would like to thank all those Oakley members who came down to Southampton to give them support.
