Oakley's trip tp Cove for the Area semi-final of the County Club Championship began badly with a couple of regular players having to drop out at the last moment and then we found the road closed and diversions in place. All 16 players, however, arrived on time and we took to the green against a Cove team that itself was missing a couple of key players. The early stages saw some good bowling but unfortunately, from an Oakley perspective Bob Goodyear's rink had a rather disastrous start and at 5 ends we trailed by 10 shots, a lead that by 10 ends had increased to 25 shots. Try as they did, Oakley were unable to pull back the deficit and the match was eventualy conceded with Cove leading 82 to 56. Oakley scores: Martin Smith, Barry Lee, Sean Lassman and Ashley Nethercliffe lost 11-18; Malcolm Grime, Brian Nethercliffe, Trevor Wearn and Fred Norris drew 18-18; Ric Newson, Jim Dixon, Stan Mond and Spencer Kerley lost 11-16; Keith Turnbull, John Wilson, Dave Harrison and Bob Goodyear lost 16-30.
