Friiday evening saw Oakley at Malshanger take on Hook in the first round of Basingstoke and District's Hants and Berks Cup. Oakley stormed off the blocks and whilst the rinks skipped by Spencer Kerley and Bob Goodyear had close games, which both eventually won, the match was decided early on by the rink of Terry Heath, Sean Lassman, Ted Brown and Ashley Nethercliffe which clocked up some big scores running out finally 47-8 winners and giving a 47 shot victory overall. It was a different story on Saturday evening as Oakley took on Basingstoke Town in the National Two Rink Competition. After their success in the earlier round against Cove, hopes were high that Oakley might progress further in this competition but Oakley struggled all evening to find their own green. The rink skipped by Bob Goodyear was by 6 ends 1-14 down and though Ashley Nethercliffe's rink, containing three of the previous night's high scoring rink was in contention in the early stages Town were overall always in control and ran out deserved winners. Oakley scores: Ric Newson, Malcolm Grime, Spencer Kerley and Bob Goodyear lost 23-25; Keith Turnbull, Sean Lassman, Ted Brown and Ashley Nethercliffe lost 11-24.
