Sunday evening saw an Oakley team with 5 enforced changes from that which played in the earlier round take on Alton Social in the County Mixed Top Club. The evening began well with Nicole Rogers recording a convincing win over Hazel Marke in the Women's Singles and, when Ashley Nethercliffe picked up the second point with a win over Adam White in the Men's event, Oakley should have been favourites. However, with the Pair of Ric Newson and Kay Kerley well down, as was the Triple of Sue Dixon, Malcolm Grime and Spencer Kerley, the match result always seemed likely to depend on the Rink. So it proved, for when the Pair and Triple conceded their points, the Oakley rink of Janie Vickers, Ruth Bown, Sean Lassman and Ted Brown were just one shot adrift with two ends to play. Sadly a loss of 5 shots on the 20th end meant that Alton Social triumphed by 3 points to 2 and Oakley bowed out of yet another team competition before May is over
